Charlotte Brontes' Jane Eyre

Book ReviewsAndrea SmithComment

A story of betrayal, anger, love, heartbreak and redemption. Jane Eyre is a must read classic. Thandie Newton gives a brilliant performance in the audio book as she captures you with her narration of this story. This was my first audiobook I signed up for and I couldn't wait until it was my son's nap time. This story is so good, I cried, smiled and gripped the couch at every turn of this book. The movie has nothing on this book. If you are considering audio books do it! You will not be disappointed.

Happy New Year!

LifeAndrea SmithComment

This quote is more true today, then any other year of my life. I know it's a little late to be saying, "Happy New Year!" But there has been major transition in this season for me and my family. We are currently leaving a staff position of ministry we dearly love, and the Lord has been really speaking to me and my husband about priorities. We haven't been putting the Lord first in our lives, but everything else.

The past several months have been a time of humility and grace. I feel strongly the Lord is wants our whole hearts and He will do whatever it takes to have it all. Even if that means flipping our world upside to have us look to Him instead of ourselves or other people. This year I am willing to do whatever it takes to follow the Lord wholeheartedly. I want my heart to feel alive again, even if that means going through the purging. If I can draw closer to Him, love others better, love myself more, then I say amen, let's stand.

How far are you willing to go for the Jesus?

The Longing for Greatness

LifeAndrea SmithComment

I think sometimes we all wish for something more than what we have. Sometimes I just want to sleep all day and not think about the rest of the world. But then what does that accomplish? I think we all desire for something more than ourselves. I believe, we were all born for greatness.

I heard a sermon once titled, "the 7 Longings of the Human Heart by Mike Bickle". He talked about the longing that each and every one of us has deep down to be known for something great. But what if we already were great just because we are. What if something or someone created us for a purpose, for a drive, for a reason to have this desire to be admired. We all want to make an impact on the world. We all want to leave our mark behind for others to see. At the very core of our human DNA, I believe we all share this desire.

I don't necessarily want to be recognized. While that is cool, and  you can be impactful to many people where you are; I want to be known by my friends and family that I lived my life to the fullest. That I took risks. That when people met me for the first time, they saw something different. I want people to see the greatness of not who I am, but who Jesus is. I want God's greatness to shine through my life in everything I do. Only God can change the world, but we get the privilege to partner with Him and make changes with Him. What a glorious thing.

If you've ever wondered why you have this desire to be great, it's because God placed that in your heart. Whether it's helping other people, making a difference in society, going after a career you've always wanted, or traveling the world and exploring. God actually loves those things about you. He loves that you want to be great. He loves that you want to make a difference, to be the person you were created to be.

My heart longs to be the best person I can be. my heart longs to be a great mom, a loving and respectful wife, a loyal friend, a trust worthy sister, a reliable daughter, an excellent worker, and a friend of God.

What are you longing to be great at?

The Marriage Idol

MarriageAndrea SmithComment

We were approaching month three, and with each passing day I’ve been feeling more and more empty. I was sitting at the International House of Prayer Room and the Lord stopped me in the middle of worshipping Him. He said, “you are putting your marriage first and not Me.” I sat down only for a few minutes until I had to leave to pick up Jared. I cried all the way home and then some. I couldn’t believe that I’ve been putting my marriage up as an idol.

I felt so helpless and lost. My beloved husband encouraged me and it was comforting for a moment, but the reality of me worshipping my husband, and my marriage brought disdain to my heart. I never wanted to be that woman who would do something like that.

It’s amazing how you can get so wrapped up in with what you’re doing and miss the bigger picture. I thought I was the only one who would ever put their husband before my God. Yet, history tells us something different. In Genesis 3:16 the Lord gives these words to Eve before they are banished from the Garden. “….your desire shall be for your husband…” With this we were cursed to have tochoose either God or man. Just like Eve had the choice to either put the Lord first or the words of a serpent first. We all will be faced with this challenge.

I was convicted, but not put to shame, for Lord began to walk and talk with me about these things. He was so kind to invite me into His heart of forgiveness and mercy. Even when He first spoke to my Spirit that I was living in idolatry. He smiled and said it’s going to be alright. I am saying this to you NOW, because I know what you will be LATER. The glorious change that happens to a woman who is filled with love for another human being, can only be brought up higher when you learn to love me first. He told me that by throwing myself into Him, I can love others better, I can love myself better and I can love Him more.

I know now that every woman will face this challenge. That you will face it. The choice is yours, whether or not to yield to the Holy Spirit when He brings it to the surface. Or you can run and hide like Adam and Eve did in the Garden. Be bold daughter of the Most High. When He comes to reveal your heart, don’t turn away in fear and disappointment. But look into the eyes of love and accept the fact that you will make mistakes. That you will fall at times, but you can get back up and try again. Repent and move on. For the Lord wants to show you all the wonders of who He is and who you are. So, enjoy the journey, and press on.
